Travel - Betong, Thailand

I’m back from Betong, Sawadeekaa –Thailand.

The journey started by sitting an excruciating 8 hours in the bus and when we reached the border of Thailand and Malaysia in the crack of dawn , I was surprised to see a lot of Malaysian tourist by the bus load all queuing (NOT!) to go through the Malaysia custom. Blardee tired and couldn’t sleep in the bus at all, I was annoyed that some ahjumas(aunties) and ahjussis(uncles) were jumping the queue. A fight nearly broke out between some ahjumas because of it. Haha….like in a drama.

We went to all the tourist attractions in a day. Nothing much. One of them is the Piyamit tunnel. This was taken from the description board at the entrance:-

"The Piyamit tunnel is the Malaya communist's base build for bombshells and storing food suplies, the battlefield bases are located on the mountain top in the midst of the deep forests which separates the boundaries of thailand and malaysia covered the area of yala provinces.
The piyamit tunnel was built in 1977 with the length of 1km and 5-6 feet wide it took three months for excavation of 50 hard manships and there are 9 entrance exit paths."

Later, in the evening, the tour guide asked us whether we want to see some “sexy performance” at some karaoke shop. It was still early in the evening and all the other shops closes as early as 9pm, therefore I wanted to go and waste my time in the karaoke shop but nobody else was interested, so I have to decline as well. So, we got some beer (darn..thai beer is so cheap!), some supper and proceeded back to our hotel. Thai massages are available in the hotel, so they can always come to the room and give you “any type of massage”. Hey even their board with the list of masseuse indicated massage with double quote like this- “massage”. I wonder why. I opt for the foot massages but I would say the one that I got from my previous trip to Bangkok, Chiangmai and Pattaya was way much better.

One thing I like about this whole trip was the abundance of durian, langsat, rambutan and mangosteen everywhere. The trees are so full of durians unlike the one I see in Malaysia, so we ate lots of lots of it and you can just hope nobody burp and fart in the bus. Most of the people there can speak Chinese (Hokkien, Mandarin and Cantonese) and Bahasa Melayu other than Thai, therefore it’s easy for us to get around and it helps that Betong people are really warm and friendly too. (^-^)
